FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Donté Robinson and
Kristen O'Handley returned to the multi events in style Tuesday, as they lead the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively, after the first day of the Boxer Combined Event at Hanson Stadium.
Â
Robinson competed in a multi event for the first time since winning the heptathlon at the Big Sky Indoor Championships just over a month ago. Robinson finished the first day of the decathlon Tuesday with 3,450 points, only 73 points off his personal-best first-day score of 3,523 points, which he set at last season's Big Sky Outdoor Championships. Robinson leads the No. 2 athlete – Concordia (Ore.)'s Giovanni Brown – by 151 points.
Â
Robinson got off to a strong start by winning the 100 meters in 11.37 seconds. Robinson didn't finish below third in any event Tuesday, and was close to his personal bests in the next three events – the long jump, shot put and high jump. Robinson placed second in the long jump and high jump with marks of 20-06.50 (6.26m) and 6-02.00 (1.88m), respectively, and placed third in the shot put with a mark of 34-05.75 (10.51m).
