LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Vikings suffered their third-straight loss, falling 9-1 in six innings to the UNLV Rebels on the second day of the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.

UNLV (17-7 overall) took an early 1-0 lead after the leadoff hitter singled and then came around to score in the top of the first. After three scoreless innings, the Rebels added to their lead with a four-spot in the top of the fourth. Three runs were driven in with RBI hits, while the fourth was able to come around to score following a three-base throwing error by the Vikings' centerfielder.

Portland State (4-15), coming off its second shutout loss of the season, once again struggled at the plate. The Vikings tallied just four hits over the first four innings. All four were stranded on base, two in scoring position.

The Vikings manufactured a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Marissa Bruno reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning. After moving to second on a wild pitch, she came in to score on a
Tayler Gunesch RBI single through the right side to cut the lead to 6-1.

The Rebels came right back with three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-1 lead heading to the last of the sixth.

Portland State needed a run to push the game to the seventh inning but went in order to fall by the eight-run margin in six innings.

Bruno tallied two of the team's six hits on the day and scored their only run. Gunesch went 1-for-3 with an RBI and has safely in each of the last five games, which is tied for the longest hitting streak of the season with
Rachel Menlove. Menlove extended her streak to five games, going 1-for-3 against UNLV.

Gunesch is 7-for-16 (.438) with four runs scored and has driven in six of her eight runs on the season over her current hitting streak.

Portland State will hit the dirt two more times Sunday. The Vikings will face No. 1 Washington for the second time in as many weeks at 9 a.m. PT. Portland State will close out play at the Rebel Classic with a rematch against UNLV. First pitch with the Rebels is slated for 11:15 a.m.
