VANCOUVER, Wash. —
The Portland State men's tennis team did its best Roger Federer impression Friday, wrapping up a 7-0 win over Puget Sound in less than two hours.

The Vikings only dropped two games combined as a team across all six singles matches, and only dropped three games combined in doubles.

Senior Nathan Boniel, junior Avery West and freshmen Sam Roberts and Otto Holtari all posted double-bagel, 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Vikings at lines one, three, four and six, respectively, in singles. Additionally, sophomores Tommy Edwards and Majeed Bukhari only dropped one game each in their matches, as they both won 6-0, 6-1 at lines two and five, respectively.

Boniel also did not drop a game in his doubles match, as he and junior Gabe Souza beat Puget Sound's Jose Sebastian Linares and Lowell Hutton 8-0 at line three. Edwards and West only dropped one game while beating Puget Sound's Joe McRoberts and Riley Inn 8-1 at line one, meanwhile, and Roberts and Holtari followed with an 8-2 win over Joshua Wah-Blumburg and Ben Colson at line two.

Edwards' win with West in doubles gave the sophomore the 10th of his career at line one, moving him into a tie for fifth all time at Portland State. Additionally, Edwards moved into a tie for third all time with his ninth-career win at No. 2 singles.

Boniel padded his career leads in overall singles wins and wins at No. 1 singles with his win Friday, but also bolstered himself in the doubles ranks. Boniel now stands within one win of entering the top 10 all time in overall doubles wins after his 19th-career win Friday, and also took over eighth-place all time on his own for wins at No. 3 doubles.

West, Roberts, Bukhari and Holtari, meanwhile, opened their accounts Friday with their first-career dual-season singles wins as Vikings.

Friday's win puts the Vikings out on the right foot for what will be a busy early season stretch for the team. Counting Friday, the Vikings will play 14 matches over the next seven weeks of the season – a stretch that will include six of the team's 11 Big Sky matches.

The tough stretch starts in earnest Saturday, when the Vikings host Seattle at Club Green Meadows. The last three matches between the Vikings and Redhawks have all been decided by 4-3 scores, with the Redhawks sweeping a pair of 4-3 matches last season.

The Vikings and Redhawks will start their match at 2 p.m. (PT) Saturday.
