CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Vikings fell 9-0 in five innings to the Oregon State Beavers on a sunny Tuesday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore.
Â
After the Vikings (6-29 overall) went in order in the top of the first inning, the Beavers (22-18) plated five runs, including a three-run home run, off Portland State starting pitcher
Emma Detamore in the bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead.
Â
Elena Cook came on to pitch in the bottom of the second inning and threw a pair of shutout innings, including a 1-2-3 bottom of the third. Cook got into trouble in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out.
Â
Alyssa Burk came on in relief an induced a fly ball to center field for the second out of the inning. The runner on third came in to score on the sacrifice fly to make it a 6-0 game. After a walk reloaded the bases, a single through the left side drove in two more to put the Beavers up 8-0. A wild pitch made it 9-0 before Burk struck out the final batter of the inning to get out of the jam.
Â
Katherine Kramer tallied the Vikings only hit of the day with a single to right field in the top of the third.
Marissa Bruno worked a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth but the next three batters recorded outs as the Vikings fell, 9-0, via the run-rule.
