MACON, Ga. – The Vikings dropped their Mercer Invitational finale, 9-1 in six innings, to the Dayton Flyers Sunday morning in Macon, Ga.
 
A walk and a double put Dayton (3-2 overall) up 1-0 in the top of the first against Portland State (0-5) starting pitcher Emma Detamore.
 
A two-run home run in the top of the third increased the Flyers' lead to 3-0. They added two more runs in each of the next two innings to go up 7-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
 
Kortney Craker singled to left field in the bottom of the fifth for the team's second hit of the game. Alyssa Burk followed with a single through the left side to put two runners on.
 
After a pitching change, pinch hitter Sierra Boyajian picked up her first career hit, and run batted in, driving in Craker from second making it a 7-1 game.
 
Dayton added two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 9-1 game heading to the bottom of the inning. The Vikings went in order in the sixth to end the game.
 
Detamore picked up the loss after allowing five earned runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. She walked to and did not record a strikeout.
 
After bye week next week, the Vikings will head to the Grand Canyon Invitational (Feb. 24-26) in Phoenix, Ariz.
