Viking Football Will Play Oregon In 2018

Portland State University has signed a contract with the University of Oregon to play football at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 8, 2018. The game will continue PSU's trend of facing Pac-12 opponents annually.

This season, the Vikings will play at Washington on Sept. 17. Next year, PSU is at Oregon State on Sept. 2. With the game at Oregon in 2018, it will mark seven straight seasons the Vikings have faced a Pac-12 foe.

In 2015, Portland State defeated Washington State, 24-17. However the Vikings have never beaten Washington (0-1), Oregon State (0-4) or Oregon (0-4).

2016 SCHEDULE
Portland State will play a decidedly different schedule in 2016. Due to the 13-team Big Sky Conference, Portland State plays three league teams it did not see in 2015: Weber State, UC Davis and Sacramento State. The Vikings see three other opponents cycle off its schedule in 2016: Montana, Montana State and North Dakota. The Vikings do not play Northern Arizona for the second year in a row.

While Montana and Montana State roll off the Viking schedule in 2016, PSU still faces defending Big Sky Conference Champion Southern Utah and traditional rival Eastern Washington.

SCHEDULE QUIRKS
• Portland State opens the season at home on Sept. 3 against Division II Central Washington. After that, the Vikings go on the road for three tough games; at San Jose State, at Washington, then at defending Big Sky Conference Champion Southern Utah. "A gauntlet," Coach Barnum calls it. The Vikings will return 28 days later for an Oct. 1 date with Idaho State at Providence Park.
• Remarkably, Portland State plays five Big Sky opponents who have bye weeks prior to their game with the Vikings.
• PSU faces only five of 11 teams in 2016 that were on the schedule in 2015. The Vikings went 4-1 against those teams (Southern Utah, Idaho State, Cal Poly, Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington).
