PORTLAND, Ore. — Sophomore
Ben Richardson ran a personal-best 3:53.22 in the 1,500 meters, while freshman
Jose Macias set his own personal best in the 10,000 meters at the Portland Track Festival Sunday at Eldon Fix Track and Fred Wilson Field on the campus of Lewis & Clark College.
Â
Richardson's time beat his previous best of 3:54.92, which he set at the OSU High Performance meet earlier this season.
Â
Macias, meanwhile, competed in the high performance section of the men's 10,000 meters, and finished as the second-best collegian in the race while setting a 40-second personal best with his time of 31:57.31. Macias' time puts him just outside the top 10 all-time in the 10,000 meters at Portland State, as his time ranks just one second behind the current No. 10 mark in the 10,000, which Chris Hollis set at 31:56.31 in 2003.
Macias' time also gives him the qualifying standard for the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, which will be June 25-28 in Eugene, Ore. That meet will conclude the 2015 outdoor season for the Portland State track and field teams, ending an outdoor season that saw the Vikings win two Big Sky individual titles, set two new Big Sky Conference records and five new school records, and achieve a program first by qualifying two athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where sophomore
Baileh Simms became just the third Viking to earn second-team NCAA All-American honors with her 15th-place finish in the long jump.
