DAY ONE RECAPÂ |Â DAY TWO RECAP
AUSTIN, Texas — The Portland State women's 4x100-meter relay team sent the Vikings out at the NCAA West Preliminary Saturday with the team's second school record of the meet, capping an historic three-day showing for the Vikings at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Â
Jazmin Ratcliff,
Genna Settle,
Jasmine Woods and
Baileh Simms ran the 4x100 for the Vikings and finished in 44.96 seconds, the first time the Vikings had ever dipped below 45 seconds in the event in school history. The foursome beat their own record from last season, when they won the Big Sky title with their time of 45.11 seconds in the finals at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
Â
The record adds to the Vikings' impressive haul at the NCAA West Preliminary, where the team set a program record with two national qualifiers between Woods in the 100 meters and Simms in the long jump. Woods qualified in the 100 meters Friday, a day after she set the Portland State and Big Sky records in the event with her time of 11.35 seconds in the first round of the 100 meters.
Â
The women's 4x100-meter relay team nearly gave the Vikings a third national qualifier, too, as their record time of 44.96 seconds placed them 14th overall in the event, just outside of the top 12 teams that qualified for the national meet.
Â
Sophomore
CeCelia Jackson also had a chance at giving the Vikings a third national qualifier Saturday, but finished the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles 18th overall in 13.68 seconds.
Â
Woods and Simms will now turn their attention to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 10-13, at Hayward Field. Simms and Woods will compete simultaneously Thursday, as Simms opens the finals of the women's long jump at 5:15 p.m. (PT), while Woods races in the semifinals of the women's 100 meters at 5:16 p.m. (PT). If Woods advances to the finals of the 100 meters, she'll race at 2:55 p.m. (PT) Saturday.
