WALNUT, Calif. — The Portland State women's track and field team set seasonal bests nearly across the board at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday, as the Vikings' six athletes at the meet beat their marks in every event they competed in at Hilmer Lodge Stadium except one.
Â
Senior
Jasmine Woods led four new seasonal bests in the 100 meters for the Vikings, as she finished in a personal-best 11.63 seconds, moving her up to third all-time at Portland State and behind only all-time sprinting greats Geronne Black and Karene King. Woods' time would have also ranked her 24th in the NCAA West going into the weekend, putting her in good position to finish in the top 48 in the region and qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary meet.
Â
Sophomore
Genna Settle, meanwhile, followed Woods with a seasonal-best time of 11.77 seconds in the 100, moving her up to third in the Big Sky in the event. Sophomore
Baileh Simms and senior
Jazmin Ratcliff also set seasonal bests in the 100 Friday, as both runners finished in 12.01 seconds, moving each of them into the top 10 in the Big Sky.
Â
Additionally, Ratcliff, Settle, Woods and Ratcliff teamed up to finish the 4x100-meter relay in 45.54 seconds, more than a tenth of a second faster than the Vikings' conference-leading time of 45.65, which the same foursome set at the Stanford Invitational two weekends ago.
Â
Woods led another group of seasonal bests in the 200 meters as well, as she finished 30th overall in 24.16 seconds, moving her up to second in the Big Sky in the event. Settle and fellow sophomore
Whitney Diggs, meanwhile, followed Woods with her their own seasonal bests in the 200, as they finished in 24.29 and 24.40 seconds, respectively. Diggs' time gives the Vikings a third Big Sky qualifier in the 200 this season, as she lowered her seasonal best in the event by over half a second Friday.
Â
Diggs also set a new seasonal best in the 400 meters, as she cracked 55 seconds for the first time this season while finishing in 54.95 seconds. Diggs' time puts her right on the verge of qualifying position for the NCAA West Preliminary in the 400, as it would have ranked her 50th in the NCAA West entering the weekend.
Â
Ratcliff and sophomore
CeCelia Jackson, meanwhile, completed the sweep of seasonal best for the Vikings at the meet, as they moved up to first and second in the Big Sky in the 100-meter hurdles with their times of 13.83 and 13.85 seconds, respectively, Friday. Ratcliff and Jackson also each moved into qualifying position for the NCAA West Preliminary with their times at the meet, as Ratcliff's time would have ranked her tied for 44th in the NCAA West entering the weekend, while Jackson would have ranked her tied for 47th.
Jackson also nearly set another seasonal best in the 400-meter hurdles, as she finishing the event in 1:02.87, just off the seasonal best of 1:02.62 she set at the John Knight Twilight meet last week.
Â
Friday's events completed the Vikings' portion of the Mt. SAC Relays. The Vikings are also competing in the Oregon Relays this Friday and Saturday, and will return to action next weekend with another two meets in the Brutus Hamilton Challenge and Mt. Hood Invitational.
