Softball Heads to Seattle for Doubleheader Wednesday

The Portland State Vikings (7-25 overall) head north to take on Seattle University (11-25) for a mid-weed non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 1. The first game is slated for a 3 p.m. PT first pitch.  The Vikings and Redhawks met once earlier this season with the Vikings taking the game by a score of 9-5 at the Louisville Slugger Invitational in Long Beach on Feb. 27. Rayleen Pallan and Brittany Hendrickson each drove in three runs to lead the Vikings to the win.

The Redhawks
     Seattle University enters play Wednesday 11-24 overall this season and 2-1 at home. The Redhawks are hitting .265 this season while opponents are hitting .344. They have been out-scored 211-147 and have combined for 71 extra-base hits (46 doubles, two triples, and 25 home runs). Seattle had been successful on the base paths going 25-for-28 in stole base attempts. 
     Rose Saenz leads the team with a .348 batting with four home runs and nine RBIs. Paige Bouska is hitting .336 and has started 34 of the team's 35 games. Hse leads the team in at bats (110), runs scored (23), and hits (37). Bubba Morrow is hitting .309 but has a team-high six home runs and has driven in 18. Her .546 slugging mark is second on the team. 
     The Seattle pitching staff has a combined 5.10 team ERA. Mandie Sugita leads the team with a 7-7 record and a 3.32 ERA. She has thrown a team-high 88 2/3 innings this season and has allowed 68 runs, 42 earned.

The Vikings will return home for a three-game conference series with Northern Colorado at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex in Hillsboro, Ore, the new home of Portland State Softball. The series will open with a doubleheader on Friday, April 3 at 1 p.m. before concluding with a single game on Saturday, April 4 at 12 p.m. The series finale will also be Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
