OGDEN, Utah – The Portland State softball team dropped two games to Big Sky Conference leading Weber State Friday afternoon in Ogden, Utah. The Wildcats took the first game 4-0 before winning 10-4 in game two.

Portland State had two runners in scoring position with one out in the top of the second but was unable to push a run across the plate.

Weber State got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second off Portland State starting pitcher
Karyn Wright. After not surrendering a hit over the first to innings, Wright gave up back-to-back hits to start the third.

A sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position before another hit followed by a sacrifice fly to left field plated the two runs to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

Portland State had another ample opportunity to score in the top of the fifth but they left the bases loaded after not being able to come up with the key hit it needed.

Weber State put the pressure on with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI double and another sacrifice fly to go up 4-0.

Meagan Hendrix was called on to stop the damage and did just that, retiring the next two batters to get out of the inning. She then set the Wildcats down in order in the bottom of the sixth, sending the game to the seventh with the Vikings still down four.

The Vikings got a two-out walk but that was it as they fell 4-0 in the series opener. They tallied just three hits in the game and left eight runners on base.

Wright went 4 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out two and fell to 2-5 with the loss.

After finding success in the first game of the series, Hendrix struggled as the game two starting pitcher.

Weber State scored three two-out runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two. The Wildcats started the run with a walk that was followed by three straight hits that plated three runs to go up 3-0.

The Wildcats scored another run in the bottom of the second after a two-out walk came around to score on a double-steal to put them up 4-0.

The Vikings got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.
Shae Nelson singled through the left side with one out for the team's first hit of the game. Two batters later she moved to second when
Rayleen Pallan walked.

Brittany Hendrickson drove in both runners with a double to right field to cur the Wildcats' lead in half at 4-2.

Weber State countered with three more runs, two earned in the bottom of the third off Hendrix to go up 7-2 through three complete innings.

Nelson walked and scored on an
Ashley Smith double in the fifth to make it 7-3 before the Wildcats added three more runs, two earned, in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Nelson singled and scored again in the top of the seventh, this time on a triple from Smith to make the game 10-4, which would be the final margin.

Hendrix allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits over 2 2/3 innings and fell to 3-8 with the loss. Nelson went 2-fo-2 with three runs scored and a walk in game two.

Weber State took the series with the pair of wins and improved to 24-10 overall and 5-0 in Big Sky Conference play while Portland State fell to 7-24 and 1-4. The series finale is slated for 12 p.m. MT Saturday.Â
