It was a few days past National Letter of Intent Signing Day, but new Portland State Football Coach Bruce Barnum was just as happy to add another player to his roster. Barnum announced the signing of quarterback Alex Kuresa to an NLI following his visit to PSU over the weekend.

Kuresa, a former prep star in the state of Utah, had nearly 3,000 yards of total offense this past fall in 10 games at Snow Junior College. He was the Gatorade State Player of the Year in Utah in 2010, passing for 3,983 yards and 38 touchdowns. Kuresa amassed nearly 13,000 yards of total offense in high school, throwing 101 touchdown passes. He originally signed and played one season as a wide receiver at Brigham Young (2012) after a redshirt year (2011). 

The signing of Kuresa brings PSU's recruiting class size to 14. Barnum anticipates another signing or two later this spring.

PREVIOUS TO PORTLAND STATE
Spent last season at Snow Junior College where he started at quarterback... completed 185-295 passes for 2,374 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions, leading his team to an 8-2 record... was also the team's leading rusher with 99 carries for 592 yards and eight touchdowns.

Originally signed with BYU where he attended two years... was a redshirt in 2011, then competed in 2012 as a receiver... played in 10 games, catching four passes for 51 yards and returning one punt five yards.

Attended Mountain Crest High School where he was the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year and the Deseret News Mr. Football in 2010... earned first team Utah 4A All-State... threw for 3,983 yards and 38 touchdowns as a senior... set numerous state quarterbacking records, including total offense (12,917), passing yards (10,951), passing touchdowns (101), completions (751) and attempts (1,154)... led his team to three straight state semifinals, then the championship game as a senior, losing in double-overtime... Region 5 MVP in 2009 and 2010... also lettered twice each in basketball and track.

PERSONAL INFORMATION
Kuresa is married. His wife's name is Madison... son of David and Susanne Kuresa... brother Jake played football at BYU.
