CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Portland State track and field teams opened a busy weekend of competition at the Crimson Elite Meet Friday, the first of two meets in the Boston area this weekend.
 
Senior Jazmin Ratcliff returned to her primary event, the 60-meter hurdles, at the meet, and placed second in the finals of the event in 8.49 seconds. Ratcliff, who entered the weekend as the Big Sky leader in the 60-meter hurdles, has now cracked 8.50 seconds in two of the three meets she's competed in the 60 hurdles this season.
 
Sophomore CeCelia Jackson, meanwhile, placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles Friday, as she finished in 8.67 seconds, just off her seasonal best of 8.65, set last week at the UW Invitational. Sophomore Akayla Anderson also tied her seasonal best in the event Friday, as she just missed out on qualifying for the finals while placing ninth in the prelims in 8.81 seconds.
 
Outside of the team's hurdlers, senior Jasmine Woods placed fourth in the finals of the 60 meters with her time of 7.56 seconds Friday. Sophomore Genna Settle also ran in the finals for Portland State and placed seventh in 7.64 seconds.
 
Senior Nettie Wayne did not make the finals in the 60 meters, but shaved several ticks off her old personal best in the event with her time of 7.84 seconds Friday. Wayne has now set a new personal best at every meet this season, as she's shaved close to two-tenths of a second off her previous best of 8.03 seconds from the start of the season.
 
In the long jump, sophomore Baileh Simms cracked 18 feet for the second time this season with her mark of 18-04.50 (5.60m) Friday, placing her fourth in the finals of the event.
 
On the men's side, junior Tyson Stipic set a new personal best in the high jump for a third time this season, as he cleared 6-06.25 (1.99m) in the event, more than an inch better than his old best of 6-05.00 (1.96m). Stipic has now raised his personal best in the high jump by three-and-a-half inches this season, as he entered the year with a PR of 6-02.75 (1.90m).
 
The Vikings will now move to the Scarlet & White Invitational, which will take place Saturday at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
