This WeekThe Portland State Vikings (4-6 overall) continue their non-conference tournament season this week at Long Beach Louisville Slugger Invitational co-hosted by Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton in Long Beach, Calif. Portland State will open the invitational with the first of three games this season against Seattle (5-9) (Portland State will play a doubleheader against the Redhawks in Seattle, Wash. on April 1).
The Vikings will then take on Boise State (5-10) and Utah Valley (5-7) for the second time this season before facing its first ranked opponent of 2015 against No. 14/13 UCLA (13-4). Portland State will wrap-up the week with the Cal State Fullerton Titans (9-7).

The RedhawksSeattle comes into the week 5-9 overall this season. The Redhawks opened the season 2-3 at the Kajikawa Classic before again going 2-3 at the Wilson-DeMarini Desert Classic. They went 1-3 last week at the Santa Clara Bronco Classic including a 12-6 loss to Idaho State.
Seattle is hitting .286 as a team this year with 76 runs scored, 24 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs, and 70 RBIs. The Redhawks are a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts. Defensively, they have committed 21 errors over their first 14 games. Seattle has a team earned run average of 5.05 this season after allowing 63 earned runs over 87 1/3 innings pitched.
Bubba Morrow leads the team with a .421 average, six home runs, and 13 RBIs. Morrow is slugging .974 on the season and has an on base percentage of .549. Madie Sugita is 3-2 this season with a 3.21 ERA. She has allowed 15 earned runs over 32 2/3 innings while giving up 38 hits. She has walked 13 and struck out 19.
The BroncosBoise State comes into play 5-11 overall this season after going 1-4 last weekend at the Diamond Devil Invitational last weekend in Tempe, Ariz. The Broncos opened the year going 3-2 at the North Texas Tournament before going 1-4 at the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational including a 10-6 loss to the Vikings.
The Broncos are hitting .280 as a team this season. They have been out-scored 80-101 this season. Boise State has a team slugging mark of .435 with 30 doubles and 11 home runs. The Broncos are 23-27 in stolen base attempts and have committed 26 errors in 15 games. They have a team ERA of 5.20 after giving up 71 earned runs over 95 2/3 innings pitched. Boise State pitchers have given up 16 home runs and opponents are hitting .321.
Kayla Clausen leads the team with a .450 batting average. Devon Bridges is hitting .447 and has started every game for the Broncos. She has a team-high 21 hits including three home runs. Mackenzie Sullivan leads the team with 16 RBIs. Rachel Rodriguez is 2-4 this season in the circle with a 4.55 ERA.
The WolverinesIt will be the second time this season that the Vikings and Wolverines have met on the diamond. Portland State defeated Utah Valley 10-0 in five innings at the Wilson/DeMarini Desert Classic. UVU went 5-5 over its first two weekends of the season before dropping a mid-week doubleheader to Cal State Northridge on Wednesday.
The Wolverines are hitting .252 on the season led by Taleigh Williams' .364 mark. Williams has played in all 12 games, making eight starts. Brittany Vansway has hit three of the team's 13 home runs and leads the team with nine RBIs. Defensively, Utah Vally is averaging 2.0 errors per game.
Bailey Moore has the most innings this season in the circle with 46 innings pitched. She is 3-5 with a 4.11 ERA after allowing 27 earned runs. She has walked 25 and stuck out 36.
The BruinsUCLA will be the first ranked opponent that the Vikings meet this season. The Bruins are 14th in the USA Today/NFCA coaches poll and 13th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. UCLA is 13-4 overall this season with its losses coming to Notre Dame (8-6), Texas A&M (6-4), Texas (5-3), and Florida State (5-1). The Bruins at one stretch won eight straight.
Six Bruins have started all 17 games so far this season. Allexis Bennett leads the team with a .587 batting average. She has a team-high 27 hits in 46 at bats and has scored 16 runs. Six players have double-digit runs scored this season as the Bruins have out-scored opponents 133-47. Seven players have double-digit RBIs.
UCLA has stolen 18-of-28 bases this season and has committed 17 errors in 17 games. Ally Carda is 6-2 in the circle this season with a 2.25 ERA. She has allowed just 15 earned runs over 46 2/3 innings. She has walked 25 and struck out 64 while holding opponents to a .173 hitting mark. As a team, UCLA has a 2.40 ERA.
The TitansCal State Fullerton enters play at the Long Beach-Louisville Slugger Invitational 9-7 overall after dropping a mid-week game Wednesday at San Diego, 3-2. The Titans opened the season with four straight wins before dropping two of the next three. After a pair of wins, they dropped four straight. They won their next two against Nevada and Oklahoma State before their loss at San Diego.
The Titans are hitting .277 as a team while opponents are hitting .317. They have been out-scored this season 129-108. Courtney Rodriguez is hitting .472 this season with a team-high 25 hits. Missy Taukeiaho is hitting .409 with six of the team's nine home runs. She also leads the team with 12 RBIs.
Fullerton has a team ERA of 5.60 this season led by Desiree Ybarra's 3.83 ERA. She is 4-2 this season in 49 1/3 innings pitched. Christina Washington is 4-2 with a 6.50 ERA this season.
Up NextFollowing action this week in Long Beach, the Vikings will embark on their longest road trip of the season when they travel to the Sunshine State for the USF-Under Armour Showcase hosted by South Florida in Tampa, Fla. The Vikings will open the Showcase with Wisconsin before taking on South Florida, Mercer, Boston College, and Villanova.

Alex Flores has provided the Vikings some offensive power behind the plate this season that they were missing a year ago. Portland State catchers accounted for three runs scored, one home run and eight RBIs a year go. Flores is hitting .214 this season with five runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles, and two home runs.

Jenna Stanford came into the game against Utah Valley (2/14) hitless for her career in limited action. She picked up her first career hit against the Wolverines in a big way. She came off the bench in the top of the fifth inning and hit a pinch hit, three-run, home run to put the Vikings up 10-0.
