Root Sports NW Will Televise Three Viking Football Games This Fall


For the second year in a row, Portland State football has been selected to appear in three Big Sky Conference Games of the Week televised on Root Sports Northwest. 

The Big Sky Conference Game of the Week package features 11 games during the season on Root. All three Viking games that will be televised games are at home. They include UC Davis (Oct. 4), Northern Arizona (Oct. 18) and a Dam Cup game with Eastern Washington (Friday, Nov. 21).

In addition to Root Sports Northwest, many of the games will be available in the Root Sports Rocky Mountain region.   

Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington all appear four times on the Root Sports Big Sky schedule. Portland State appears three times, UC Davis and Northern Arizona are on twice, followed by Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and Idaho State once each.    

This will mark the third year of a multi-year partnership between DIRECTV Sports Networks and the Big Sky Conference. Root Sports' production of Big Sky Conference football has been nominated for a Northwest Region Emmy Award two consecutive seasons.

Portland State has a 12-game schedule again in 2014, with five home contests and seven on the road. PSU anticipates having its games at Oregon State (Aug. 30) and Washington State (Sept. 13) televised on the Pac-12 Network.

Additional radio and television information, and game times, will be released at a later date.

About the Big Sky Conference
The Big Sky Conference enters its 51st year in 2014-15, and currently consists of 11 schools in nine states (Eastern Washington University, Idaho State University, The University of Montana, Montana State University, the University of North Dakota, Northern ArizonaUniversity, the University of Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Portland State University, Southern Utah University and Weber State University). Cal Poly and UC Davis are football affiliate members. The University of Idaho will return to the Big Sky on July 1, 2014, as a non-football member.

The Big Sky Conference is one of the premier leagues at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision level. It advanced teams to the Division I National Championship three straight seasons from 2008-2010. Eastern Washington won the national championship in 2010.

Multiple Big Sky Conference teams have qualified for the FCS postseason in fifteen consecutive seasons. In recent seasons, league teams have upset squads from the Big 12, Mountain West, WAC, Sun Belt and Pac-12 Conferences, including Eastern Washington's upset victory over nationally-ranked Oregon State in 2013.

NFL LEGENDS GAME AND SPRING GAME ON MAY 18
The Portland State Football Spring Game and NFL Legends Game will be played May 18 at Hillsboro Stadium. The NFL Legends Game, featuring numerous former All-Pro Players and Hall of Famers, will begin at 5 p.m. The Spring Game will immediately follow.

Guest coaches for the NFL Legends Game will be former Viking and current Denver Bronco Julius Thomas and former Viking and current Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawk DeShawn Shead.

Among those competing in the NFL Legends are: Steve Largent, Terrell Owens, Warren Moon, Neil Lomax, Dwight Clark, Garrison Hearst, Roger Craig, Rod Woodson, John Taylor, and Randy Cross.
