SACRAMENTO – A late Hornets run gave Sacramento State the 3-2 win and the series sweep Saturday afternoon in Sacramento, CA. The Vikings tied the game a 2-2 in the top of the sixth before one run in the bottom of the inning put the Hornets up for good.
The Hornets (22-18 overall, 10-4 Big Sky Conference) scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to go up 1-0. They increased their lead with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 2-0.
Sacramento State's Caitlin Brooks had a perfect game through 4 1/3 innings before
Crysta Conn picked up the Vikings' (7-31, 2-12) first hit with a single to left field.
Alicia Fine walked with two outs in the top of the sixth and was moved to second on an infield single by
Becca Bliss.
Brittany Hendrickson came through again for the Vikings with a two-run double to right center to tie the game. Hendrickson has now reached safely in the last nine game and hit safely in the last five.
A lead off walk by the Hornets in the bottom of the sixth worked its way around the bases and scored the game-winning run on a single to left field off Portland State reliever
Karyn Wright. Wright took the loss in the game.
The Vikings will travel to Eugene Tuesday afternoon for a single game at No. 1 Oregon starting at 4 p.m. Oregon swept California at home this weekend.
