Bears Take Care of Vikings in Series Finale

GREELEY, Colo. –
It was a rough day at the ballpark for the Vikings as they fell to the Northern Colorado Bears, 19-2, in five innings. With the win, the Bears took the season series 2-1.
 
Alicia Fine led off the game with a single to left field and later came around to score and give the Vikings a 1-0 lead on an Aubrey Nitschelm single through the left side.
 
Northern Colorado (15-28 overall, 6-3 Big Sky Conference) countered with eight runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 8-1 lead. They scored five earned runs off Melissa Masters before running her from the game with one out in the bottom of the first. The Bears would tack on four three more runs to go up by seven.
 
After the Vikings scored a run in the top of the second on a RBI single from Fine, the Bears added seven more runs in the bottom of the second to go up 15-2 after two innings.
 
Northern Colorado added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 19-2. The 19 runs scored by UNC Saturday were the most by an opponent this season. Masters picked up the loss falling to 2-5 on the season.
 
Fine went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the game. Candice Orozco went 2-for-2 with a run scored in the game.
 
Crysta Conn singled in the first inning extending her current hitting streak to a team-high seven games. She 9-for-20 (.450) with five runs, three doubles, two home runs, and eight RBIs over the streak.
 
The Vikings continue Big Sky play next week with a three-game set at Sacramento State.
