Vikings Fall to Bison in Louisville Slugger Finale

STANFORD, Calif.
– The Portland State softball team dropped its final game at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic falling to North Dakota State 11-3 in six innings.

After a scoreless first inning, North Dakota State jumped on Portland State for six runs on seven hits off Vikings' starting pitcher Karyn Wright to go up 6-0.

Aubrey Nitschelm drove in the Vikings first run of the game with a RBI single to left field which scored pinch runner Celena "Nugget" Carrisosa from second base in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 6-1 in favor of the Bison. 

After North Daktoa State added a run in the top of the fifth to go up 7-1, Portland State scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Shae Nelson reached on an error with one out and advanced to second on the play. After Becca Bliss walked, Nitschelm grounded out for the second inning. Crysta Conn reached on the second Bison error of the inning. Bliss and Nelson both came in on the play to make the score 7-3.

North Dakota State put the game out of reach with four runs in the top of the sixth to go up by eight at 11-3. The Vikings were unable to put any more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to fall 11-3 in six innings.

Wright fell to 1-8 on the season throwing her second straight complete game. Wright allowed 11 earned runs on 18 hits while walking one and striking out one.

The Vikings will play in their final non-conference tournament next weekend at the Gaucho Classic II hosted by UC Santa Barbara. The Vikings will then open Big Sky Conference play with a three-game series with Idaho State March 22-23 at Erv Lind Stadium.
