STANFORD, Calif. – Brianna Celaya continued her hot hitting going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and a runs scored on the day but the Vikings dropped two more games at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic. Portland State fell to No. 22 Stanford 9-1 in five innings before falling to UC Davis, 4-3, in eight innings in the second game of the day-night doubleheader.

Celaya, who has only played in five games thus far this season for the Vikings, is taking advantage of her recent playing time. She is now hitting .417 on the season (5-for-12) with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

Portland State opened the day falling to No. 22 Stanford 9-1 in eight innings. The Vikings threated to score with runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings but they could not come up with the big hit to drive in a run against the Cardinal.

Stanford was first to score with one run on two hits in the bottom of the first off PSU starting pitcher Karyn Wright. Wright held the Cardinal in check in the second and third innings but gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth as the Cardinal increased its lead to 4-0.

Portland State took advantage of a Stanford error in the top of the fifth and pushed across its first run of the game to bring the score to 4-1.

Melissa Masters came on in relief of Wright to start the bottom of the fifth inning for the Vikings. Things did not start off well for Masters against the Cardinal as its first four batters reached safely. Stanford would add five runs in the inning to increase its lead to 9-1 to win in five innings.

Wright was tabbed with the loss in the game going four innings and allowing four earned runs off six hits. Celaya picked up one of the Vikings' three hits in the game and scored their only run.

In the night cap, the Vikings fell to UC Davis, 5-4, in eight innings. Portland State is now 0-3 in extra-inning games this season.

The Aggies picked up two runs in the top of the second off Wright who once again started for the Vikings. After giving up the two runs, Wright settled down and set down UC Davis in order in the third and fourth innings.

Aubrey Nitchelm walled with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to give the Vikings' their second base runner of the game. Brittany Hendrickson singled and then Alicia Fine drove in Nitschelm with a single to left field. Celaya then doubled to left center driving in Hendrickson and Fine to give the Vikings their first lead of the game at 3-2.

UC Davis tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the fifth. The Aggies threatened to take the lead in the sixth but Wright was able to work her way out of a jam.

Portland State had a great opportunity to score after it worked the bases loaded with two outs. The Vikings were unable to get the big hit and the score remained tied at 3-3 through the end of regulation.

The Aggies placed a runner at second to begin the top of the eighth according to International Tiebreaker rules. They promptly moved the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt and then brought in the runner on a double to retake the lead at 4-3.

The Vikings moved their runner to third with a sacrifice bunt from Nitschelm. Portland State had two chances to bring in the runner but was unable to do so and fell to the Aggies in extra innings.

Celaya went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game while Hendrickson went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Wright again picked up the tough loss falling to 1-7 on the season. She threw her third career complete game allowing four runs, three earned, in a career-high eight innings pitched.

The Vikings will play one more game at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic when they face North Dakota State Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
