Boxscore - HTM | PDFPortland, OR - Bryce White scored 19 points with six rebounds and five assists in his home debut as the Portland State Vikings cruised to an 84-63 win over Willamette at the Stott Center.
White, a sophomore transfer from Chemeketa Community College, paced a Viking team that shot .544 from the field. Senior guard Tim Douglas was perfect hitting all six of his shots, including three three-pointers, for 15 points while adding three rebounds and three assists.
White scored five points in an early 11-point run by the Vikings. That turned a 5-3 deficit into a 14-5 lead for PSU.Â
A 23-4 run later in the first half was capped by an Iziahiah Sweeney three-pointer. That had the Viks up 40-17 with 3:57 left before intermission.
Portland State led 48-27 at halftime and Willamette never got closer than 17 in the second half. PSU's largest lead was 28 points.
Viking senior DaShaun Wiggins had 12 points, four assists and three steals. Sophomore forward Braxton Tucker had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team PSU shot it well, hitting 31-57 from the field. The Vikings also made 8-14 three-pointers (.571).
Willamette's saving grace was the three-point shot. The Bearcats hit 11-21 (.524) overall, but just 11-35 two-point shots. They shot .393 for the game.
Alex Brown scored 20 points with seven rebounds for Willamette. Brendon McCullough had 15 points off the bench.
Portland State improved to 2-0 on the season, while Willamette dropped to 0-2.
GAME NOTES: Thirteen Vikings played and 10 scored in the game… Portland State is 15-0 against lower division opponents since the start of the 2006-07 season. The Vikings have lost only six non-conference home games during that span (36-6)… the Vikings are off until next Monday when they host Southern Illinois Edwardsville in a 7:05 p.m. game at the Stott Center.
