Portland, OR
- DaShaun Wiggins was a highlight reel all night, scoring a career-high 32 points. But the Vikings needed his driving three-point play with just over a minute to go in overtime to hold off Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 90-87, at the Stott Center.

Wiggins' wild drive to the rim and free throw with a 1:21 left in overtime gave the Vikings their first lead, 87-84, since there were more than four minutes left in regulation. Tiegbe Bamba added one free throw with 29 seconds left, and Tim Douglas hit two more with 8.8 seconds left to ice it for the Vikings.

Portland State is now 3-0 on the early season, marking the first time they have started a season with three wins since the 2008-09 campaign.

The Cougars were up 23-18 at the 11:42 mark of the first half. Fortunately Wiggins, the Big Sky Conference co-6th Man of the Year last season, came into the game with a hot hand for the Vikings. He hit seven of his first eight shots, including three three-pointers and had 19 points by halftime.

PSU trailed 34-25 with 8:33 to go in the half. From that point Wiggins scored 14 of the Vikings next 19 points. At halftime PSU was back on top, 51-46. Both teams shot it well, with PSU at .556 from the field and SIUE at .531.

The Cougars weathered the Viking rally though. SIUE made nine of its first 11 to open the second half and took back the lead. Kris Davis buried a three-pointer at the 11:24 mark of the second half and the Cougars were back on top, 71-69. It was close from then on.

Leading 82-80, SIUE had two opportunities in the final minute of regulation to win the game. The first ended with a shot clock violation and 21 seconds to play. On PSU's ensuing possession, Gary Winston drove the lane and found Braxton Tucker underneath for a layup to tie the game at 8.8 seconds left.

Then, a driving Donivine Stewart couldn't get off a good shot off for SIUE before the final horn, sending the game to overtime.

Each team struggled to score early in the extra session. Then with the game tied 84-84, Wiggins drove the left side of the lane, took the contact, and scored a conventional three-point play.

Wiggins finished 12-18 from the field, 3-4 from three-point range and 5-10 at the line for his 32 points in 36 minutes of action.

"DaShaun doesn't start, but he doesn't complain about it," said Viking Coach Tyler Geving. "You could see why he was the Sixth Man of the Year. He is living up to it again."

Wiggins had a lot of support, including another great shooting night from Tim Douglas. The senior point guard hit 5-7 shots, 3-3 from three-point range and 4-4 at the line for 17 points, three assists and four steals. Tucker added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

PSU finished the game at .500 from the field (30-60) and three-point range (7-14), and 23-30 at the line (.767).

SIUE as led by 25 points and six rebounds from Davis. Keaton Jackson scored 16 points with six rebounds. The Cougars, now 1-3 on the season, shot .541 from the field and made 13-21 at the line (.619).

"SIUE is a good basketball team. Give them credit, they came out ready to fight," said Geving. "We made some plays down the stretch and executed some stuff on offense. That's a good win, a grind-it-out type of game and we didn't have our best effort."
