Vikings Lose Close Game Against Bengals on Senior Day

– Senior Karley Lampman scored a game-high 13 points for the Vikings but Portland State fell to Idaho State 61-54 Saturday afternoon at the Peter W. Stott Center on Senior Day.

Lampman led the Vikings with her 13 points going 4-for-10 from the field including a perfect 3-for-3 from distance. She also went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, pulled down a pair of rebounds, and tallied three assists. Fellow senior Courtney VanBrocklin had seven points, six rebounds, and a team-high four assists.

Portland State got out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a couple of jumpers by Allie Brock and a three-pointer from Emily Easom. After the Vikings built a 9-2 lead, the Bengals went on a 9-0 run of their own to take an 11-9 lead. Courtney VanBrocklin then tied the game with a coast-to-coast layup.

The teams then went back and forth trading buckets with neither being able to post more than a one possession lead before Idaho State took a four-point lead at 25-21 with 4:41 left in the second half.

Keaton McFadded hit a jumper followed by a jumper from VanBrocklin tying the game at 25-25. After ISU took the lead, Easom gave the Vikings a one-point lead at 28-27 with a three-pointer

Idaho State went on a 4-0 run to close out the half and lead 32-28 at the break. Lariel Powell led the Vikings with seven points in the first half. Easom added six points with a pair of three pointers.

Portland State got 11 points off the bench in the first half alone after getting just 13 points in 45 minutes against Weber State Thursday night.

The Vikings quickly tied the game at 32-32 with four points to open the second half. The Bengals went on a 6-0 run to take the lead at 38-32 with just over 15 minutes left.

VanBrocklin cut the lead in half completing a three-point play before Lampman tied the game at 38-38 with a three-pointer with 14:46 remaining.

After Idaho State built a 51-45 lead, Lampman hit her third three-pointer of the game, the Vikings sixth as a team, cutting the lead to 51-48. A free throw and a jumper gave the Bengals a six points lead again at 54-48.

Lampman cut the lead to four with a pair of free throws before ISU's Kara Jenkins drained a three-pointer increasing the Bengals' lead to seven points at 57-50 with 2:21 left.

Brock hit a layup on a pass from Powell with 49 seconds left cutting the Bengals' lead to five points at 59-54. Brock finished the game with 10 points to go along with six rebounds.

Idaho State ran nearly 20 seconds off the game clock before putting up a three-pointer. ISU's Jessa Jeppesen came down with the offensive rebound forcing the Vikings to foul to extend the game.

Idaho State hit a pair of free throws and won by a final score of 61-54.

The Vikings were without starting guard Allison Greene for the second consecutive game due to an injury.

NOTES: Portland State went 6-for-15 (40-percent) from three-point range … Senior Courtney VanBrocklin finished her career with 1,211 points, 11th on the PSU all-time scoring list.
