HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Portland State softball team fell to No. 21 Hawai'i Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-3 at the 2013 Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament.
Hawai'i got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. The Rainbow Wahine added three unearned runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead through two innings.
The Vikings got on the board with a two-run home run off the bat of freshman catcher
Lauran Bliss cutting the lead to 4-2. It was Bliss' first career home run as a Viking.
Hawai'i added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. It started the inning with three consecutive singles off Vikigns' starting pitcher
Anna Bertrand. Hawai'i then drove in three runs on a bases clearing triple. It added another run in the inning increasing its lead to 8-2.
Brittany Hendrickson drove in a run for the Vikings with a two out double in the top of the sixth cutting the lead to 8-3. Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in during the game.
Bertrand threw a complete game for the Vikings allowing eight runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking eight and striking out seven. She fell to 3-10 on the season with the loss.
Kala Parnaby threw a complete game for Hawai'i allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven. She improved to 13-2 on the season with the win.
Earlier in the day the Vikings dropped an exhibition game to the Tokyo Women's College of Physical Education by a score of 7-3.
The Vikings will play two more games at the Aloha Tournament Sunday. They will take on East Carolina at 3 p.m. PT before finishing with Hawai'i at 5 p.m. PT.
