TEMPE, Ariz.
– The Portland State softball team fell to the Bradley Braves, 6-0, Saturday on the third day of the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.

The Vikings (1-3 overall) gave up three early runs in the top of the first inning. The Braves first three batters reached on a walk and back to back hits which drove in a run. The next batter flied out to deep right and both runners at first and second tagged up and advanced. The throw to the infield got away from the Vikings and another run was able to score on the error. After the next batter walked, Vikings' pitcher Anna Bertrand recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the first.

Down by three runs, senior Carly McEachran led off the bottom of the first with a single through the right side. McEachran was then thrown out at second on a fielder's choice hit by Sadie Lopez. Lopez advanced to second on a wild pitch before Lauran Bliss worked a walk. Aubrey Nitschelm grounded into an inning-ending double play ending the scoring opportunity for the Vikings.

Neither team did anything in the second or third before Bradley (2-1) picked up an unearned run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Portland State had a great scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth when they had the bases loaded. They were not able to capitalize when a flyball to center field ended the inning.

Bradley picked up another run in the top of the seventh and won the game by a final score of 6-0. Bertrand suffered her third loss of the season giving up five runs, three earned, in six innings pitched. She walked four and struck out nine.

Portland State will play two games Sunday on the final day of the Kajikawa Classic. The Vikings will take on Kentucky at 7:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. MT. They will then face off with Indiana at 12:30 p.m. PT/1:30 p.m. MT.
