HENDERSON, Nev.
– Sophomore Alicia Fine drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth propelling the Vikings to a 3-2 win over the Cal State Fullerton Titans Friday morning at the Easton Desert Classic in Henderson, Nev.

Fine drove in junior transfer Sadie Petersen from third base with one out in the bottom of the sixth to put the Vikings on top for good. Fine finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI to lead the Vikings to the win. Vikings' starting pitcher Raya Johnson picked up her first win of the season with a complete game against the Titans.

The Vikings (3-4 overall) had a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the first with the bases loaded and two outs but could not come up with that clutch hit to plate a run.

Senior Carly McEachran came up with that clutch hit in the bottom of the second when she drove in Fine from second with two outs. Fine singled to center with one out and was moved to second on a fielder's choice before McEachran doubled her in for the game's first run.

Johnson sat down the Titans (2-3) in order in the top of the third with a pair of groundouts and her first strikeout of the game. Johnson went the distance giving up two earned runs on two hits. She walked six and struck out one.

CS Fullerton tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth without hitting the ball out of the infield and with the aide of a Portland State error.

After neither team did anything in the fifth, the Titans took their first lead of the game with a run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.

Pinch hitter Melissa Masters reached on an error to leadoff the bottom of the sixth for the Vikings. Masters was lifted for a pinch runner, Lexi Goranson, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Crysta Conn.

Candice Orozco then drove in Goranson from second with a game-tying RBI double. Orozco was lifted for Petersen who came in as a pinch runner to make her Portland State debut.

Petersen was moved to third on a Brittany Hendrickson single to center before being driven in on the game-winning single by Fine. The Vikings threatened to add more in the bottom of the sixth but the two runs would be all they would need as Johnson shutdown the Titans in the top of the seventh for her first complete game win of the season.

Desiree Ybarra gave up the go-ahead run in the sixth and was credited with the loss. She pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits.

The Vikings are back out on the field this afternoon against UNLV at 1:30 p.m. The Rebels defeated San Jose State Thursday night 2-1 to improve to 3-3 on the season.
