Portland State Men’s Tennis Cruises to 7-0 Win Against Lewis & Clark College

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Portland State men's tennis team got back to a .500 winning percentage on Sunday as the squad cruised to a 7-0 victory against Lewis & Clark at Club Green Meadows. The Viks were flawless in the afternoon match, winning all three doubles contests and going 6-0 in singles competition.

In doubles play the all three Viking teams won by the same score, defeating the three Pioneer tandems, 8-2.

The No. 1 team of Antoine Bechmann and Ian Risenhoover downed Kevin Ross and Daniel Hahm, while the No. 2 duo of Lukas Kortus and Stratton Gilmore, registered the second win, downing Carter Gee-Taylor and Scott Monismith.

The No. 3 pairing of Wil Cochrane and Zach Lubek upended Ryotaro Tokura and Lucas Fodor to complete the doubles dominance.

In singles play the story was the same and was started with Brent Wheeler, who defeated Hahm, 6-1, 6-0, from the No. 3 position to make it 2-0, Portland State with the advantage.

Gilmore tallied his second win from the No. 1 position, making quick work of Ross, 6-2, 6-0, pushing the score to 3-0.

Dillon Triance made his first appearance in the singles lineup after having gone a perfect 5-0 in exhibition matches and made it count as he clinched the match victory for Portland State from the No. 5 position, downing Tokura, 6-2, 7-5.

Kortus gave the Viks their fifth point of the contest with a win over Gee-Taylor, 6-1, 6-2, while Cochrane got his second win of the season, this time from the No. 4 position, defeating Monismith, 6-1, 6-0.

Zach Lubek put the final exclamation point on the full-match sweep, as he beat Fodor, 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets, to give the Viks the 7-0 victory.

Portland State will be back on the court next weekend when it heads out on its first Big Sky road trip. The Viks will play Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday and Weber State in Ogden, Utah, on Sunday. Match times are slated for 10 a.m. MDT.
