Kate Lanz finished with a team-high 20 points as the Vikings fell 80-68 Friday night at the Peter W. Stott Center. It was Lanz's second 20-point performance of the season.
Lanz opened the game going 5-for-5 with a pair of three pointers but cooled off from the floor. She finished the game 6-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. She hit a pair of three-pointers while posting four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Allie Brock added 16 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Emily Easom added 11 points while freshman
Delanie Parry posted a career-high seven. The Vikings got it done at the charity stripe going 24-for-27 as a team.
Seattle (1-3 overall) went up by as much as nine points with 13:03 left in the first half before Lanz scored eight straight including back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to just one at 22-21 with 10:36 left.
That was as close as Portland State (0-2) would get as Seattle went on a 12-3 run to build up a 10-point lead at 34-24. The Vikings cut the lead late on a pair of Parry free throws but the Redhawks led by five at the break.
Seattle outscored Portland State 26-to-8 in the paint in the first half. The Redhawks finished the game with a 50-to-18 advantage in advantage in the paint.
The Vikings cut the lead to four points several times early in the second half but could not get any closer as the Redhawks built up a 16-point lead before taking the game 80-68.
Sylvia Shephard finished with a game-high 25 points with 13 rebounds for Seattle while Kacie Sowell added 24 points on 12-of-18 shooting.
The Vikings return home Tuesday, Nov. 26 when they host Corban (OR). The Vikings defeated Corban 67-52 last season.
