PORTLAND – Junior right-hander

Bertrand and Johnson combined on a two-hit shutout in the 7-0 win in game one. The Vikings then held on for a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
With the two wins, Portland State won the four-game conference series, 3-1. The Vikings improved to 16-15 overall and 6-2 in the PCSC to maintain first place in the Mountain Division. Idaho State fell to 5-28 overall, 2-6 in the PCSC.
The Vikings will return to action next weekend when they travel for a four-game PCSC series at Northern Colorado. The two teams will play doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday, starting at 11:00 a.m. PT.
GAME 1: PORTLAND STATE 7, IDAHO STATE 0
Portland State built a 4-0 lead after two innings, scoring two runs in the first and two in the second. Freshman shortstop
Alicia Fine drove in the game's first runs with a two-run, bases-load single, following an intentional walk to senior first baseman
Karmen Holladay. Junior second baseman
Carly McEachran capped the second with a RBI single to make it 4-0.
That would be more than enough offense for the Vikings, as junior right-hander
Anna Bertrand and freshman right-hander
Raya Johnson combined to retire the first 16 Bengal batters.
Bertrand retired all nine batters she faced, striking out six, in taking a no decision. She was lifted after the third inning with the Vikings leading 7-0.
Johnson (2-4) worked four innings to earn the win, allowing two hits and striking out three. A single by freshman third baseman Shaundee Garrett with one out in the sixth inning broke up the combined perfect-game bid.
Fine finished 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Vikings' 10-hit attack. Sophomore third baseman
Crysta Conn went 2-for-4, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning to make it 7-0.
Junior Amanda Fitzsimmons (4-8) was charged with the loss. She allowed seven runs on nine hits and one walk in four innings.
GAME 2: PORTLAND STATE 2, IDAHO STATE 1
The Vikings scored a run in the first inning when senior center fielder
Jenna Krogh reached on a lead-off walk and came around to score on a two-out RBI single by senior first baseman
Karmen Holladay.
Portland State made it 2-0 with a run in the sixth. Fine hit a lead-off double and scored a batter later off a pinch-hit single by junior
Sadie Lopez.
Idaho State answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out RBI double by Vicky Galasso, scoring Becky Simonsen, who reached on a lead-off walk. The Bengals, though, would strand the tying run on second after Bertrand coaxed Gabby Lopez to ground out and then struck out Christina Rayner looking to end the inning.
Idaho State had the tying run in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Bertrand was able to get Simonsen to hit into a fielder's choice grounder to end the game.
Bertrand (13-8) inherited a 1-0 lead and worked four innings to earn the win. She allowed one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out six.
Johnson drew the start, working three scoreless innings before giving way to Bertrand to start the fourth. Johnson allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out three in taking a no decision.
Freshman right-hander Kelsi Ott (0-13) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings. She also struck out five.
