EUGENE, Ore.
– The Portland State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 14 Oregon Wednesday night by scores of 10-4 and 1-0 at Howe Field in Eugene, Ore.

Freshman Alicia Fine extended her career best hitting streak to six games after going 2-for-3 game in game one and then 1-for-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. She is 16-for-24 with eight runs, four doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs during the hitting streak.

Game 1 – Oregon 10, Portland State 4

Fine got the Vikings (18-20 overall) on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-out solo shot over the left field fence to extend her hitting streak. Oregon plated a run in the bottom of the inning for a 1-1 score heading to the second.

Oregon (31-9) would add two runs in the second and another run in the third inning taking a 4-1 lead.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Becca Bliss singled up the middle to the shortstop. Jenna Krogh walked putting runners on first and second with one out.

Scary moment for Carly McEachran and the Vikings when she was hit by a pitch on the side of the face and was forced to leave the game. She would be alright but would sit out the rest of the game and come in as a pinch hitter in game two. Jordan Goschie would replace McEachran loading the bases with one out.

Fine would then single up the middle scoring Krogh and Bliss for her second hit of the game. She would however, be thrown out at second trying to advance to second on a throw to the plate. Fine's second and third RBIs of the game brought the Vikings to within one run at 4-3.

Oregon came right back in the bottom of the fifth inning with six runs to extend its lead to 10-3 on three hits in the innings.

Raya Johnson started the game in the circle for the Vikings and had trouble with the strike zone in the fifth, walking five batters to go along with giving up the three hits. She threw the complete game giving up 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits while walking seven and striking out five and would suffer the loss.

The Vikings would add a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alexa Morales scoring Karmen Holladay from third bringing the score to 10-4.

Game 2 – Oregon 1, Portland State 0

After losing the first game by a score of 10-4, Johnson bounced back in the circle for the Vikings in game two. She pitched the first four innings of game two and gave up only one run on six hits.

After the Vikings went 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning, Johnson got into trouble in the first after giving up a leadoff single to centerfield. The next batter singled to right. A double steal put runners on second and third with no outs.

Johnson induced a fly out to right for the first out before getting a ground out to second bringing in the runner from third for the only run of the game. After back-to-back walks, Oregon had the bases loaded with two outs when Johnson came up big and got the batter to strikeout swinging to end the threat in the first.

The Vikings would get runners on in four of the seven innings but could not advance past second base.

Anna Bertrand came on in relief in the fifth inning and pitched two scoreless innings allowing two hits while walking one and striking out one.

Fine extended picked up a single in the top of the sixth inning and now has a career best six game hitting streak. She went 1-for-3 in the game.

The Vikings now return home to Erv Lind Stadium for a four-game Pacific Coast Softball Conference series with the Redhawks of Seattle University with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Both doubleheaders are slated to start at 12 p.m. PDT.
