BOISE -- The Portland State softball team takes on Minnesota and Boise State today at the SpringHill Suites Invitational in Boise. PSU faces Minnesota at 9 a.m. PT, then takes on the host Broncos approximately 20 minutes after.
Most likely, though, this morning's game against Minnesota will be pushed back because of rain that is currently in the Boise area. The Broncos field crew just put the tarp back on the field. Check the softball schedule page for an updated start time.
All five games at this weekend's tournament will feature a free live audio broadcast through GoViks.com, as well as live stats. Links for both can be found under the LIVE EVENTS tab on the front page of GoViks.com.
The Vikings (9-10) have not played an official game since March 4, in Riverside, Calif. Their home games against North Dakota on Monday and No. 1 Alabama on Wednesday were both halted early in the contests due to rain.
Minnesota is 17-7 after suffering a 2-1, eight-inning defeat to Boise State last night. The Golden Gophers lead the all-time series with PSU, 4-2, and have won the past two. Last season in Tucson, Minnesota earned a 2-0 victory. In 2010, the two teams met up here in Boise, splitting the series. The Golden Gophers claimed a 6-3 victory on March 21, while the Vikings won, 1-0, the day before.
Boise State has won six of its past nine and is now 16-10 on the year. The Vikings have won all three previous matchups, including two games here in 2010. PSU won, 9-1 in six innings, on March 20, then defeated the Broncos, 9-3, the next afternoon.
After today's games, the Vikings face Utah State on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT, and again on Sunday at the same time. They close out their trip to Boise by taking on the host Broncos on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
