Flagstaff, AZ - Charles Odum led five Vikings in double figures as Portland State rolled to a convincing 76-65 Big Sky Conference road win at Northern Arizona.
Odum had 20 points, followed by 12 from Michael Harthun, 11 by Chehales Tapscott, and 10 each from Nate Lozeau and Renado Parker. That highlighted a solid performance by the Vikings as they shot .545 from the field (30-55), led for the last 30 minutes of the game, and at one point were up by 17.
Portland State ended a three-game losing streak. Now 11-12 on the season, the Vikings have improved to 5-6 in conference play.
With the score tied at 20 and 7:44 left in the first half, the Vikings went on a 17-2 run. Harthun hit three straight shots early in the rally as PSU took control of the game. PSU closed out the half with a 41-26.
PSU shot .514 in the half and committed only two turnovers. Meanwhile, the Vikings scored 11 points off eight NAU turnovers. Harthun had 10 points to lead the Vikings. The 'Jacks made only 11-29 in the half (.379).
Portland State's lead got as large as 17 points before NAU made a run, closing the gap to eight points on two occasions late in the game.
Ephraim Ekanem had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Northern Arizona. Gaellan Bewernick added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Northern Arizona went down to its 11th loss in a row and is now 5-19 on the season, 1-11 in the Big Sky.
GAME NOTES: Portland State has won three of its last four road games… PSU swept the season series from NAU, winning 82-62 in Portland on Jan. 5... Odum had his 10th 20-point game of the season -eighth on the road. The Vikings are 6-4 when he scores 20... the Vikings are on the road again next week, playing at Idaho State on Thursday night.
