PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State track travels across the country this weekend to compete in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at The Armory in New York, N.Y.
The invitational has become one of the largest collegiate indoor track meets in the country since its inception 11 years ago. It hosts some of the countries powerhouse programs. Four of the top-five men and women's programs in the country will be in attendance.
The Vikings will be focusing on the sprinting corps this weekend at the invitational. The Vikings sprinting corps has had a very successful season so far this season with four in the top-10 in the Big Sky Conference in the 60-meter dash this season along with seven in the top-16 in 200-meters.
For
Geronne Black, the current conference leader in the 60-meters, it is a home coming as she hails from the Big Apple. It is her third time running at the collegiate level in her hometown.
UW Invitational
The Vikings continued the improvement on the season last weekend at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash. Four Vikings made the event finals in the 60-meters with Black improving her conference leading time to 7.46.
Joenisha Vinson qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finished eighth overall while
Dominique Maloney won her heat and finished sixth overall in the 400-meters.
Amber Rozcicha qualified for the Big Sky Championship with a career best time in the mile run.
Luke Leddige, on the men's side, finished the men's heptathlon with a career-best mark of 4,450 points passing teammate J. J. Rosenberg and coach Seth Henson for eighth all-time at Portland State.

Following this weekend in New York, the Vikings will be back in the Land of Enchantment as they compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invitation in Albuquerque, N. M.
