Last Year's Championship
At the 2011 Big Sky Indoor Championship
Geronne Black set the championship record, tied the indoor track conference record and won the 60-meter dash championship with a time of 7.43. She also finished fourth in the 200-meters.
Karene King won the 200-meter championship with a time of 24.10 at last year's championship. She finished 0.30 seconds ahead of the next fastest runner and missed making the podium in the 60-meters by 0.01 seconds.
Along with Black and King, two other Vikings
P'Lar Dorsett and
Anaiah Rhodes finished fifth and sixth respectively. The women's squad scored 54.5 total points, which was the most for the Vikings since 2007.
On the men's side,
J.J. Rosenberg finished sixth in the 400-meters and 10th in the heptathlon.
DeShawn Shead finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Shead and Rosenberg teamed up with
Tony Crisofulli and
Nate Lightner in the 4x400-meter relay.
Third Straight?
With her win in the 60-meters last season, Black became the first student-athlete to win back-to-back championships in the 55/60-meters since Joyce Rainwater of Eastern Washington did it in 1994-95. Black is the conference leader and the favorite going into the championship after setting the conference record two weeks ago at the Boise State Team Challenge with a time of 7.41.
