PULLMAN, Wash. – The Portland State women's tennis team finished its whirlwind opening weekend of three duals in three days. The Vikings fell to the Vandals of Idaho by a score of 7-0 Sunday in a neutral site dual on the campus of Washington State University.
 
“We came into the match with quite a few injuries so everyone had to play up a line,” head coach Jay Sterling said Sunday evening. “We came into today with five players and they all gave good performances. The scores didn't resemble how close the games really were. A point here or there and things could have been different. That being said, we got a lot of experience out there on the courts today which will help us as we get closer to the conference season.”
 
The Vikings, who were already shorthanded due to injury, came into Sunday's dual with five players which forced them to have to default on the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles lines.
 
Portland State gave up the doubles point when, adding to the default in the No. 3 slot, Marti Pellicano and Megan Govi fell by a score of 8-3 as did the pairing of Alexa McDonald and Nayanatara Vadali.
 
The Vikings then lost the singles matches in straight sets to give the Vandals the 7-0 dual victory.
 
Portland State will be back out on the road next Sunday, Feb. 5 as it travels to the University of Oregon for a dual in Eugene, Ore. which is slated for a 12 p.m. start. The Vikings will then open up their home schedule with a dual with Seattle University on Feb. 10 and open conference play at home on Feb. 11 against Montana.
