PORTLAND, Ore. –
Crysta Conn drove in five runs and Portland State ran its winning streak to 10 games with a doubleheader sweep of visiting North Dakota on Tuesday at Erv Lind Stadium.

Conn was the offensive star, going a combined 3-for-5 with a double, triple and home run, as the Vikings won the opener 5-0 and the nightcap 3-1.

Portland State is now 23-15, while North Dakota fell to 12-32.

In game one, Conn's three-run homer with two outs in the third inning gave Portland State all the runs they would need. Conn's third blast of the season was a line drive shot that just cleared the center field fence, and brought in Jenna Krogh, who had singled, and Arielle Wiser, who had walked.

Conn made it 4-0 with a RBI-double to left field in the fifth, scoring Wiser from first base. Lacey Holm followed with a bloop single to left field to plate Conn.

Karmen Holladay (1-0) made her first start of the season in the circle for the Vikings, earning the victory after pitching four scoreless innings. Holladay struck out one, walked one and allowed four hits. Anna Bertrand picked up the save, her second of the year, giving up just one hit and striking out three over the final three innings.

Conn and Holm both had two hits for Portland State, with Conn driving in a career-best four runs.

Kenna Olsen and Kayelee Schoeny both hit 2-for-3 for the Fighting Sioux. Emma Gronseth went the distance for North Dakota, giving up five runs on 10 hits and one walk to fall to 3-13.

Wiser gave PSU a 1-0 lead after one inning of the second contest, driving in Krogh on a groundout to short.

D Jantzer tied the game up for the Fighting Sioux, hitting a two-out solo homer to right field in the second inning.

In the fourth, Wiser led off with a single up the middle, Conn tripled to right to give the Vikings the lead and Holladay singled to left field, making it 3-1.

Nichole Latham pitched the final five innings in relief of Bertrand and struck out nine. Latham sat down nine of the first 10 batters she faced and improved to 13-7 on the season. She walked just one and allowed three hits.

North Dakota threatened in the top of the sixth, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but Latham got Amanda Johnson swinging to escape the jamb.

Portland State tallied six hits off of North Dakota starter Michelle Frank (6-11). Krogh led the way by batting 2-for-3.

NOTES: This was the first time that PSU and North Dakota had ever played. The Fighting Sioux made the trip West because they have six players from the state of Oregon on their roster. They were scheduled to play two games at Oregon State yesterday, but got rained out ... Bertrand struck out three and gave up only one hit – Jantzer's homer – over the first two innings of the second game ... Wiser made a spectacular defensive play to record the first out of the seventh inning in game two. Courtney Gonzales hit a ball to the left side of the infield that bounced off the glove of Conn at third base. Wiser picked up the ball in the hole and fired across to first just in time for the putout ... the Vikings' 5-0 victory in game one was their fourth straight shutout. The last time they recorded four straight shutout victories was at the end of the 2008 season ... Becca Bliss had a pinch hit single in game one and then went 1-for-2 in game two for Portland State ... Holladay has yet to give up a run this season over seven innings ... the Vikings hit the road for their next six games. PSU plays at Northern Colorado twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday in a critical conference series. The Viks and Bears are tied for first in the PCSC Mountain Division at 9-3. Portland State also plays a doubleheader at Colorado State on May 2. All six games can be heard on GoViks.com.
