Lumberjacks Rout Vikings, 79-52, in Flagstaff

- Behind 58% shooting and 21 points from Eric Platt, Northern Arizona rolled over Portland State, 79-52, at Rolle Activity Center.

The loss ended the Vikings' Big Sky Conference season at 5-11. PSU, which had won two of its previous three games, dropped to 13-16 overall. Northern Arizona won its fourth straight game over the Vikings and finished the Big Sky schedule at 18-11, 9-7 and in fourth place. The 'Jacks host a first-round Big Sky Tournament game on Saturday. The Vikings will go on to play one last non-conference game, Mar. 10, at Seattle University.

Northern Arizona took the fight to the Vikings in the first half. NAU jumped to an early lead and it grew to 19 points late in the half. The Lumberjacks made 12 of their first 17 shots in the game.

Platt hit five three-pointers in the half and 6-8 shots overall for 17 points. He led the Lumberjacks to a 43-27 halftime advantage.

The 'Jacks made 16-25 in the half (.64%) and 7-10 from three-point range (70%). Portland State hit 10-25 shots (40%) and just 1-7 three-pointers (14%).

PSU was unable to make a game of it as NAU continued to shoot well. The Lumberjacks led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

For the game, the Lumberjacks shot .577 from the field (30-52), while PSU shot .380 (19-50). The 'Jacks also outrebounded the Vikings, 34-24. PSU's 18 turnovers were the most in 18 games.

Platt finished with a game-high 21 points. Stallon Saldivar had seven rebounds and eight assists to lead NAU.

Chris Harriel scored 13 points to lead Portland State. Tree Thomas added 10 points. Chehales Tapscott pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

GAME NOTES:
PSU is now 1-11 on the road this year… the Vikings will go after a 14th win against Seattle next week (PSU was 13-19 last season). PSU travels to Key Arena to play Seattle University at 7:10 p.m. The game can be heard on Freedom 970 AM and www.970.am. The Vikings beat the Redhawks, 83-76, on Dec. 1 in Portland.
