HENDERSON, Nevada – Portland State gave top-ranked UCLA a battle, but two Viking errors led to three unearned runs and the Bruins escaped with a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at the Louisville Slugger Dessert Classic.

UCLA's Jessica Hall (4-1) kept Portland State's offense in check, limiting the Vikings to a pair of hits. Hall gave up a leadoff single to Jenna Krogh in the bottom of the first and then didn't give up another hit until Danielle Lynn doubled to left center with two outs in the seventh.

The Bruins scored a solo run in third, benefiting from a Vikings' throwing error, and they later tacked on two more runs in the fifth as PSU committed its second error of the contest.

UCLA entered the evening averaging over nine hits and almost nine runs through their first eight games, but Portland State pitchers Nichole Latham and Anna Bertrand teammed up to limit the Bruins to six hits.

GiOnna DiSalvatore and B.B. Bates each had two hits, while Kellie Fox and Alyssa Tiumalu both drove in runs. UCLA, the defending national champions, moved to 8-1.

Latham (2-3) suffered the loss despite giving up just a pair of hits and one unearned run. She started and went four innings, walking three and striking out one. Bertrand struck out two and gave up four hits over the final three innings.

Portland State fell to 5-5. The Vikings close out the tourney by playing Cal Poly at 9 a.m. tomorrow. That game can be heard on GoViks.com and live stats will also be available.

NOTES: Krogh extended her hitting streak to seven games. She is batting .435 (10-23) over that span ... PSU fell to 0-6 all-time against UCLA ... the Vikings were playing a top-ranked team for the fourth straight year. This was the fifth time since 1999 they've faced a defending national champion.
