Kavanaugh Goes After QB Rushing Record When Vikings Face Eagles

Portland State quarterback Connor Kavanaugh is headed to Eastern Washington this Saturday looking for a win for his Viking football team. Along the way, he has a shot at a Big Sky Conference record as well.

Kavanaugh, who ranks third in the conference in rushing with 653 yards this season, is closing in on a Big Sky record for rushing by a quarterback. The current mark is 686 yards by former Northern Arizona quarterback Lance Kriesien (2007). Kavanaugh is just 33 yards short of that total and has been averaging 93 yards rushing per game this season. If he doesn't get the mark at Eastern Washington, where the Vikings play on Saturday at 1 p.m., Kavanaugh can look forward to three more games on the schedule in November.

This season, the senior from Lincoln High School has rushed 85 times for 653 yards (7.7 ypc) and six touchdowns in the Vikings' Pistol Offense. He has already broken his own PSU record for quarterback rushing of 506 yards set last year.

Kavanaugh currently has 1,557 career rushing yards. The Big Sky Conference record for career rushing yards by a quarterback is held by Ken Hobart of Idaho (1,826 yards from 1980-83).
