Fine Captures First PCSC Player of the Week Award

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman infielder Alicia Fine had a breakout weekend against the Bears of Northern Colorado highlighted by a game-winning walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning and culminating in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference's Mountain Division Player of the Week award as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Fine went 11-for-17 (.647) on the weekend with five runs scored, two doubles, seven runs batted in and the grand slam home run. Over the four-game span, she raised her batting average from .317 to .388 (71 points).

After going 0-for-4 in the first game of the series, she went 4-for-4 in game two with two runs scored and a RBI.

Her biggest hit of the weekend came in the bottom of the ninth inning in game three of the series. With two outs and the bases loaded and the count at 3-1, she did something that most only dream of, hit a walk-off grand slam. The home run capped a 5-fo-5 day at the plate that included two singles and two doubles. Her five hits were a career high as were the five runs batted in for the game.

She finished off the four-game series with a 2-for-4 performance in the series finale. She also scored a run and drove in a run.

The award is Fine's first of her career and the second player of the week honor for the Vikings. Pitcher Anna Bertrand has won six pitcher of the week awards this season.

The Vikings head to Eugene, Ore. to take on the University of Oregon in a doubleheader Wednesday starting at 3 p.m. at Howe Field. The Vikings then return home to Erv Lind Stadium this Saturday and Sunday for doubleheaders with Seattle University. Games will begin at 12 p.m. PDT both days.
