Portland State University Athletics

Stephanie Ludwig has been named the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, beginning her work on the Park Blocks on May 1, 2025. Ludwig comes to PSU with extensive experience in both collegiate and professional sports.
 
An alum of Kansas State, Ludwig worked as a student trainer while an undergrad and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. She moved on to the University of Nevada, earning a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership: Higher Education Administration in 2014 while serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer.
 
Ludwig began a near six-year tenure at the University of San Francisco in 2014, beginning as an Associate Athletic Trainer, moving to Head Athletic Trainer, then Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Training.
 
Ludwig joined the professional ranks in 2020, securing an Athletic Trainer position with the Portland Timbers. She was named Head Athletic Trainer in 2022 – the first female Head Trainer ever for the Timbers and the second ever in Major League Soccer history. Ludwig then was hired as the Director of Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer for the Portland Thorns FC in January 2024.
 
More recently, Ludwig served as a consultant for Portland State Athletics. She now takes over as the Director of Sports Medicine for the Vikings and will manage of team of athletic trainers and manage student-athlete health care, injuries and rehabilitation.
