PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

Rochelle Hearns

Rochelle Hearns became the top assistant in the Portland State women's soccer program in Feb. 2014, and will enter her fourth season in that roll in 2017.

Hearns' role as the top assistant comes after she served as a volunteer assistant coach within the Portland State program from 2009-12. During that time, Hearns was part of the Vikings’ 2011 Big Sky regular-season championship team, and helped recruit several of the players in the Vikings’ program during their 2012 and 2013 championship runs.

More recently, Hearns helped guide the Vikings to a second-place finish within the Big Sky Conference in 2014, her first season back within the program. The Vikings went 6-2-2 in Big Sky play during the 2014 season, and qualified for the Big Sky Tournament for the seventh straight season.

Hearns brings a well-establish expertise in recruiting to the Vikings coaching staff after an extensive coaching career in the Portland area.

Hearns served as the head coach at Clark College in Vancouver during her time away from the Vikings (2012-13). Hearns was named the 2013 South Region Coach of the Year while at Clark, and led her Clark College team to its first-ever post-season appearance.

Hearns has also served as a head coach and assistant within the Oregon Olympic Development Program since 2004. Hearns was named the 2013 Portland Timbers ODP Coach of the Year due to her work in the program, and led her ’95 Girls team and ’96 Girls team to the regional finals and semifinals, respectively.

Hearns coached in the Idaho Olympic Development Program as well, and was the girls director of coaching at Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club at the time of her hire.

Earlier in her career, Hearns served as an assistant coach for the WPSL Portland Rain from 2009-10. Additionally, Hearns served as an assistant women’s coach at Pacific University (Ore.) from 2006-09, and has worked as the head coach at Warner Pacific College (2003-06) and Cascade College (2001-03). Hearns also worked in the Oregon Soccer Academy as a high school age director from 2001-05.

Hearns holds a Unisted States Soccer Federation ‘A’ License, and has also coached for the professional and youth clubs for AFC Ajax in the Netherlands and Botafogo FC in Brazil.

As a player, Hearns played for the University of Wyoming from 1995-96. Additionally, she was a four-time state champion for the Cheyenne Sting Soccer Club in Cheyenne, Wyo., and led her club to the quarterfinals of the USA Cup. Hearns was also a four-year starter for her Cheyenne East High School team, a Wyoming all-star team selection, and led Cheyenne East to three appearances in the state finals.
