PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

Abbey Bergquist

  • Title
    Team Manager

Forced to retire from playing due to injuries, Abbey Bergquist enters her second season as team manager in 2016.

Bergquist had been a standout as a defensive midfielder for the Vikings, winning the 2013 Big Sky Newcomer of the Year award while starting every match as a freshman. Bergquist helped lead the Vikings to an unbeaten 8-0-1 Big Sky record in 2013, as well  as an appearance in the Big Sky tournament final, just the second time the Vikings had played for the Big Sky Tournament title.

Injuries started to affect Bergquist during the 2014 season, however, as she was forced to sit out in nine of the team’s first 10 matches. Despite the rocky beginning, Bergquist made a splash in her first start of the season, recording a goal and an assist in the Vikings’ 3-1 win over Eastern Washington. Bergquist also scored the Vikings’ lone goal in their 2-1 loss to Northern Arizona in the Big Sky semifinals, earning her a spot on the Big Sky All-Tournament team.
