Teauna Hughes is in her second season as an assistant softball coach at Portland State. The former Boise State letterwinner works with the Vikings’ infielders as well as all of the Portland State hitters.
Hughes joins the Portland State staff after playing two years at Boise State. Prior to that, she played for PSU Head Coach Meadow McWhorter for two years at Mount Hood Community College.
The Clatskanie, Ore. native earned All-Mountain West first team honors for the Broncos in 2016 after leading the team in batting average (.386), hits (56), doubles (12), RBIs (47), and slugging percentage (.710). She also finished second on the team in home runs (11) and runs scored (30). As a junior she hit .263 with four home runs, nine doubles, and 17 RBIs. Over the course of her two years in Boise, she hit .326 with 21 doubles, 15 home runs, and 64 RBIs.
Prior to playing at Boise State, Hughes was twice named the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Southern Region Most Valuable Player while playing at Mt. Hood CC. She led the Saints to a 39-3 mark and the program’s fourth NWAACC titled in 2014 after hitting .481 with 63 hits, 14 home runs and 63 RBIs.
As a freshman at MHCC in 2013, she led the Saints to a 39-7 overall record, led the league in home runs (21) and RBIs (60), and was named an NFCA NWAACC All-American.
She graduated from Boise State with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Studies in 2016.
