Maddy Newkirk is in her third season with the Portland State softball program after joining the Vikings staff in the fall of 2021. After two seasons as a volunteer assistant, she was promoted to director of player development in the fall of 2023. Â
Newkirk played at Mt. Hood Community College under head coach Meadow McWhorter for two seasons. Following her career at Mt. Hood, she spent four years active duty in the United States Coast Guard. During that time, Newkirk graduated from the University of Hawaii in 2019 with a degree in Communicology. In 2023, she earned her Master's of Arts in Teaching.Â
