Kelly Melone is in her third year as an assistant softball coach at Portland State. Melone will work with the hitters and infielders.
Melone was a four-year letterwinner as an infielder for the University of Texas. She was a part of a Longhorn team that won the Big 12 Championship in 2005 en route to a third place finish at the Women’s College World Series. Texas made the post season every year she was there making it to Super Regionals from 2006-09.
As a junior in 2008, Malone was named the Lowe’s Texas Most Improved Player after leading the team in doubles and sacrifice flies. She was also fourth in the Big 12 in doubles that year. Malone not only excelled on the field but in the classroom. She was a two-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection and was the 2005-06 recipient of the UT Women’s Athletics Sarah Hengst Young Endowed Scholarship.
Following graduation, Melone worked as a physical therapist as well as a performance coach most recently at Michael Johnson Performance in McKinney, Texas. She worked with professional, collegiate, and youth athletes with different aspects of their training including strength, speed, and agility.
Melone graduated from Texas in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.
