Chris Skinkis joined the Portland State Basketball staff in 2016 as an assistant coach. Skinkis had spent 10 seasons in collegiate coaching at the Division I, Division II and junior college levels.
Skinkis came to PSU after two seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina Central. Although he was originally hired by previous coach Tyler Geving at PSU, Skinkis spent three seasons as an assistant to Head Coach Barret Peery at at Indian Hills (IA) Community College. Peery retained Skinkis when he took over in 2017.
“Chris is a guy who has already been a part of my family on a different staff having worked for me three years in Iowa,” Peery said. “I know exactly what I am getting on and off the court. He is a guy who knows me as well as anyone and how I want to do things on a daily basis.”
Skinkis also had tenures at College of Eastern Utah, Lewis University and St. Norbert College.
Skinkis is renowned for his recruiting abilities. In three seasons at Indian Hills, he had three recruiting classes that went on to produce 23 Division I players. IHCC was ranked number one each season and played for the national championship in 2014. The program was 93-11 in his three seasons at the school.
Similarly, at Skinkis’ prior stop, College of Eastern Utah was 23-8 in his only season.
Originally from the state of Wisconsin, Skinkis earned a degree in Sports Management from Wisconsin-Parkside in 2006, then a Masters degree at Lewis University in 2010.
