Academic Support

ACADEMIC ADVISING

Each team has an assigned academic advisor who provides academic support to ensure that you understand University and NCAA requirements. Advisors can help with class selection, major selection, and the development of graduation plans. Advisors are also responsible for tracking student athletes’ academic progress towards their chosen degree programs. The focus of the athletic department’s advisors is to counsel student athletes on how to best balance their academic and athletic responsibilities. This is done by assisting students in navigating and achieving both PSU’s academic requirements and those of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

STUDY HALL IN THE MORROW ACADEMIC CENTER

All freshmen and transfer student-athletes are required to attend study hall hours weekly regardless of their incoming GPA. Freshmen have this requirement for the first three terms of their career and transfers are required to meet this standard during their first two terms. Study hall hours are based on a student’s grade point average and the assessment of coaching staff and academic services.

Study Hall Open Hours

Monday-Thursday 9:00AM - 7:00PM

Friday 9:00AM - 12:00PM

TUTORING AND MENTORING

Academic tutors and mentors are available to all student-athletes free of charge. If a student-athlete would like some assistance with a particular class, he/she should request a tutor/mentor. A tutor/mentor can be assigned and scheduled to meet your time demands.

PROGRESS REPORT - MONITORING

Progress reports will be provided to all student athletes during the 5th week of each quarter. These reports are to be filled out by professors and returned to your coach or team advisor no later than the Friday of the 6th week of the term. Additional progress reports may be required for some students and will be distributed at the discretion of SASS staff.
