PORTLAND STATE vs. BYU POSTGAME QUOTES – FEB. 11, 2011
Head Coach Tobin Echo-Hawk
On the comeback win and bouncing back from yesterday's loss to Nebraska:
"It definitely showed we have a lot of heart. We were just stting here talking about how hard it is to come back from a shot that is hit as hard as it was (referring to Fitu's two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning). I told Brandi Campos after the game that it was her at-bat that set the tone for us to keep going. The girls talked about how awesome it was that we kept our spirits up and we kept working hard and didn't lose faith."
On Karmen Holladay's game-winning hit:
"She had a great at-bat there. She made adjustments from at-bat to at-bat between yesterday and today. She did what she wanted to do. She was looking for something to drive and that's exactly what she did."
On Nichole Latham's pitching performance:
She did a great job bouncing back from yesterday. Yesterday was a little rough on her. But it was the first game and she was a little tight. She came back, kept their hitters off balance and threw her type of game."
On whether or not this win will set the tone for the rest of the tournament and the rest of the season:
"I've been saying for a long time that this team is really special and they are going to be pretty good. If they can maintain this confident feeling that they have right now and that feeling that they can play with anybody, then it's going to be a really exciting season."

Junior Karmen Holladay
On what she was thinking prior to her game-winning hit:
"I was just thinking to myself that I needed to relax and just be smooth. When I get into trouble is when I'm nervous and try too hard. I have been waiting for that (first hit) these last two games and this time I just had the right mind set. It definitely felt good for my first hit to be a game-winner."

Senior Nichole Latham
On what she was thinking after losing to Nebraska yesterday and before today's game against BYU:
"I was thinking that I was trying to be too perfect and that I just needed to come out and throw the ball and by myself. I thought I did that today."
On whether or not she felt like she was a roll during the BYU game:
"Definitely. I felt like after the first couple of innings I was just in a groove."
On the team's comeback win:
"It was a total team effort. It was good to see us bounce back after what happened yesterday. We showed a lot of heart and character. Last year it took us until the end of the season to learn how to come back in a game and here we are doing it already in our second game of the season. It says a lot about who were are as a team."
