Portland State Basketball Coach
Jase Coburn has announced the signing of Emil Skyttä for the 2026-27 season.
Skyttä is a 6-5 guard who spent the past season at North Dakota State after two years at Sacramento State.
"The first thing that jumps off the page with Emil are his physicality and toughness," said Coburn. "He is a Portland State type of player; an elite defender and he can attack the rim on offense. Emil's personality will be something that Portland State fans will really enjoy as well.
"We completely respected him during his time in the Big Sky (Conference at Sacramento State). We are extremely excited and happy to add him. When he hit the portal, he is one of the first guys we wanted to get."
Skyttä averaged 3.7 points and 1.8 rebounds for the Bison in 2025-26. He started 49 games over two seasons at Sacramento State from 2023-25. He averaged 8.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 2024-25 for the Hornets (averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games against the Vikings). Skyttä averaged 5.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists as a freshman. He actually began his career at Central Michigan in 2022-23, playing in six games before an injury cost him the season and he took a redshirt year.
Originally from Helsinki, Finland, Skyttä was a member of the Finnish U18 National Team for two years. He attended Pohjois-Haaga Coeducational School.
Skyttä joins a Portland State program that won the Big Sky Conference regular season championship in 2025-26 (20-11/13-5) and is led by Big Sky Coach of the Year
Jase Coburn.
