BEAVERTON, Ore. – Portland State women's tennis hosted its first home match of the season Sunday, cruising to a 7-0 sweep of Linfield at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The win improved the Vikings to 3-1 and marked their third consecutive 7-0 result, all against Division III opponents. Sunday's dual was an exhibition for the Wildcats (0-1) and did not count towards their record.
Four Vikings notched 6-0, 6-0 singles wins as Portland State dropped just five games total across singles and doubles. Only one of the five came in doubles play, with Scarlett Perkins and Kasumi Hirayama claiming a 6-0 win at No. 1, and Nene Uemura and Marta Giglio matching that score at No. 2. Anjola Ige and Hana Abdelhamid added a 6-1 win at No. 3.
In singles action, Giglio (No. 4), Abdelhamid (No. 5), and Ige (No. 6) each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Uemura matched the feat at No. 2. Hirayama added a 6-1, 6-0 win at line three, and Perkins closed out the sweep at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The Vikings return to action Friday, Feb. 20, traveling to Pullman, Wash., to face Washington State at Hollingbery Fieldhouse (11:00 am).
